Lady Cougars find their stride in 3-0 win over North Florida Christian

High energy, effort and efficiency in passing led the Lady Cougars to a 3-0 victory over North Florida Christian School.
“We dominated tonight,” Sophomore middle hitter Elijah Grace Cawvey said.
Head coach Kelsey Harrell said she was impressed with her team’s ability to keep the “never give up plays” alive.
“We’re finishing plays no matter how they start,” Harrell said. “There were balls that came off the ceiling, or maybe we touched them first, and it was a bad pass — second and third balls that we would have not gotten to earlier in the season.”
Passing was a strong suit for the Lady Cougars in the win. The team found their groove, putting balls in favorable offensive positions on most points.
“If we can’t get a good pass, then it doesn’t matter what we can do with our offense,” Harrell said. “We’ve got to be a good, strong, defensively sound team, and I think that they did a really good job of honing in on that.”
Harrell said the team rode momentum well Monday night and kept an elevated energy level.
“That wasn’t a bad team,” Harrell said. “We just never gave them any momentum or an edge.”
Harrell said she was impressed with sophomore Cawvey’s play. She described Cawvey’s performance as “smart” and said she adjusted well on offense.
“There were times that the set was too close to the net or off the net,” Harrell said. “She realized, ‘OK, a tip here is going to be better than swinging and it going out of bounds or in the net.’”
The Lady Cougars take on Aucilla Christian on Tuesday, first serve at 6 p.m.
