4-H holds Cloverleaf Project Achievement Event at HES

Southwest District 4-H Cloverleaf Project Achievement was held Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Hutto Elementary School in Bainbridge. Thirty-three Decatur County 4-H’ers competed against 12 counties and 275 students in various project areas. Students participating in 4-H Project Achievement investigate a topic and prepare a demonstration or “illustrated talk” with posters and props. Scores are based on fluidity, presentation skills, and knowledge of the subject. 4-H’ers can also choose to compete in a food lab where they have one hour to prepare a “no-cook” recipe following food safety guidelines and food nutrition guidance. There is also the option to perform vocally, instrumentally or through dance. Hutto Elementary School 4th and 5th grades, Bainbridge Middle School 6th grade and Grace Christian Academy 4 th , 5 th and 6th grades 4-H’ers competed in the Saturday contest. Decatur County Extension staff worked in-class with Mrs. Brandi Deal, Mrs. Tami Enfinger and Ms. Janet Brock and their students to help with the Project Achievement process. Competitors representing Decatur County 4-H were Ava Williams: 1st place in 6th grade Cat Care, Colton Johnson: 1st place in Team Sports, Maci Lynn: 1st place in Historic People, Samantha Moye: 1st place in Crafts, Anniston Dodd: 3rd place in 5th Historic Places & Events, Sawyer Vickers: 2nd place in Wildlife, Wyatt Dixon: 1st place in Paleontology, Kirksey Bell Hayes: 1st place in Beef, Calhie Jane Rentz: 1st place in Horse, Jackson Baker: 1st place in International, Eva Kinchen: 1st place in Agricultural Awareness, James Donaldson: 3rd place in 5th grade General Science, Bella Yang: 1st place in 4th grade General Science, Benjamin Harrison: 1st place in Outdoor Recreation, Peter Alvarez: 1st place in 4th grade Cat Care, Olivia Head: 1st place in Companion & Specialty Animals, Jaxen McCoy: 1st place in 4th grade Arts, Thomas Hufstetler: 2nd place in 5th grade Historic Places & Events, Silas Rand: 1st place in 4th grade Historic Places & Events, Sampson Moye: 1 st place in Wildlife, Isabella Alvarez: 2nd place in Herpetology, James Rivera: 1st place in Robotics, Heidi Griffin: 1st place in Sheep & Meat Goats, Ada Johnson: 1st place in Dairy, Kyson Reffitt: 1st place in Plants, Soils & Fertilizers, LaNorris Hayes: 2nd place in Outdoor Recreation, Korvyn Reffitt: 3rd place in General Recreation, Mason Burke: 2nd place in Current People, Places & Events, Kyler Gleeson: 2nd place in 6th grade Arts, Olivia Sapp: 1st place in Clothing & Textiles, Nashawn Rand: 3rd place in 6th grade Historic Places & Events, Keaton Gleeson: 1 st place in Geology, and Samantha Aguayo-Delgado: 1st place in Entomology. Decatur County Extension was honored to be asked to host the event in Bainbridge and is very grateful to Dr. Boyd English and Mr. Quentin Fuller for the opportunity to use Hutto Elementary School for the competition. HES administration, teachers and staff were very gracious and supportive throughout the process resulting in a productive event. Also instrumental in the success of hosting the 4-H District Project Achievement contest, were Decatur County 4-H volunteers, Ms. Tiffany Rambo, Mrs. Dennis Parker, Ms. Rachel Hayes, and Mr. Corbin Austin. Additionally, Decatur County 4-H Teen Leaders Tyler Godwin, Evan Hutto, Autumn Wiggins, Margaret Chastain, Londyn Lawrence, Jade Edmond, Kenan Reffitt, Corbin Keaton, Madison Patrick, Hailey Taylor, and Lyric Keaton contributed hours of their time helping things go smoothly. Georgia 4-H is preparing the next generation of leaders through 4-H Project Achievement.  4-H Project Achievement helps youth perform better in school related tasks, become self-directed learners and contributing members of society and creates work ready young adults.  Through the 4-H Project Achievement process youth explore an area of interest, gain knowledge and skills in the area and prepare presentations and evidence of learning.  This process builds not only skills related to the Georgia Standards of Excellence, but those directly related to Work Ready Georgia. 4-H Project Achievement, an annual competition, is a cornerstone in the Georgia 4-H program and serves to showcase the work and success of 4-H members.
