The Bainbridge High School varsity boys and girls’ basketball teams will move forward into the State AAAA tournament, despite neither winning their region tournaments.

The varsity boys lost 60-58 to Northside-Warner Robins in the boys’ Region 1-AAAA championship on Friday in Columbus, Ga. Paul Chukes led the Bearcats’ scoring with 19 points.

Despite the loss, the Bearcats take the region’s No. 2 seed into the state tournament, which means they get to host their first round game. They will host Effingham County—which will be traveling from the Savannah, Ga., area as the No. 3 Seed from Region 2-AAAA—on Saturday at the new BHS gym.

The Lady Bearcats, who had already lost in the region tournament, lost to Lee County 56-43 in the region consolation game on Friday in Columbus. Briana Wade led the Lady Cats with 15 points.

The Lady Cats take the region’s No. 4 seed into the state tournament, although they will not get to host any games. Instead, the Lady Cats will travel to Richmond Hill, located just outside Savannah, to play the Richmond Hill Lady Wildcats, the No. 1 seed from Region 2-AAAA.
