BAINBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL BEARCATS senior wrestlers Cole Bulger, left, and Kole Gilbourn, right, are embraced by Bearcats coach Chad Smith following strong high-school-career-ending performances at Friday and Saturday’s sectionals at Northside Columbus High School.

Seniors Cole Bulger and Kole Gilbourn competed in the last matches of their strong Bainbridge High School Bearcats wrestling careers Friday and Saturday in the sectionals at Northside Columbus High School.

Bainbridge coach Chad Smith said he could not be prouder of his two seniors’ efforts.

“Cole Bulger and Kole Gilbourn fought hard, not only at the sectionals, but also throughout the season and their Bearcats wrestling careers,” Smith said. “They both advanced to Saturday’s second round but fell short of placing and moving on to state.

“They are true athletes who worked hard all year to make their senior season the best it could be. They wrestled great and it was a bittersweet ending to a magnificent Bainbridge High School career. The record books will show that they are two of the most victorious wrestlers in Bainbridge High School history, and that is a great accomplishment.”

Grayson Heard and Ashton Cato made history at the sectionals when they became just the third and fourth Bainbridge High School Bearcats freshmen wrestlers to ever compete at the sectional level.

“Charlie Emanuel and Jacob Trawick also wrestled hard at sectionals,” Smith said. “Charlie, wrestling in the 195-pound weight class, competed well against seniors before being eliminated.

“Jacob wrestled in the 182-pound weight class and advanced to Saturday with a come-from-behind win on Friday. He pinned his opponent in the third round.”
