Bainbridge High School pitcher Tate Lambert threw a no-hitter Tuesday evening, as the Bearcats defeated Northview of Dothan, Ala., 2-1, at the BHS Diamonds.

Bainbridge coach Brian McCorkle said that Lambert kept Northview’s batters off-balance all game, pounding the strike zone with fastballs and a sharp curveball.

Lambert allowed one run and one walk, while striking out nine batters. Jake Goodson scored the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh, with a sacrifice fly.

At the plate, the Bearcats did just enough to win. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Lambert led off with a single to left. Sophomore Nolan Haire replaced Lambert as a courtesy runner, and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt from Rion Murrah.

Jordan Davis later hit a two-out RBI single to right center, scoring Haire to tie the game.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh. Murrah singled to right with one out, and Blake Voyles followed with a single to left to put runners on first and third. Davis was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases with one out.

Goodson then lofted a fly ball to left field, and Jackson Jones — who was pinch running for Murrah — came in to score on the sacrifice fly.

Bainbridge was scheduled to play a doubleheader in Hamilton, Ga., against Harris County on Friday evening. The Bearcats’ games next week are both on the road — Tuesday at Leon at 4 p.m., and Friday in a doubleheader at Thomas County Central starting at 5 p.m.

Bainbridge’s next home game is Tuesday, April 16, against Liberty County at 6 p.m.
