The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats varsity soccer team scored four first-half goals, on the way to a 5-0 victory over Americus-Sumter on Tuesday evening at Centennial Field.

In the 14th minute, Bainbridge sophomore forward Longeisha Emanuel took a pass from senior outside midfielder Asia Irving, and scored from five yards out to the left side.

The Lady Cats increased the score in the 17th minute at 2-0, when Irving scored on a penalty kick, following a tripping foul to Emanuel in the penalty area.

In the 26th minute, junior midfielder Treesy Hurst took a deflected pass and quickly shot in front of the Americus goal, to extend the lead to 3-0. The final Bainbridge goal of the first half came on a left-footed shot from six yards out, by senior outside midfielder Kathleen Victor, in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, the fifth and final Bainbridge goal was scored in the 64th minute, when senior midfielder Caitlin Cato dribbled through the Americus defense and scored from five yards out.

“We worked the ball better, playing our shape consistently, and kept our possessions on their end of the field for most of the contest,” Bainbridge coach Chip Ariail said.

Junior goalkeeper Makayla Dunn registered the shutout, making two saves.

“I thought sophomore defender Sonja Francis played well and had a nice field save on a breakaway attempt by a Lady Panther forward,” Ariail said.

Bainbridge will travel to face Thomasville at 10 a.m. Saturday, and travel to face Thomas County-Central on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Cats’ next home game is Friday, March 29, against Hardaway at 5:30 p.m.
