The Bainbridge High School Bearcats scored six runs in the final three innings Tuesday at Cairo’s Jackie Robinson Field to overcome an early 5-0 deficit and defeat the Cairo High School Syrupmakers, 6-5.

Bainbridge coach Brian McCorkle liked the way his team hung in and came back.

“You always like to beat the rival and a win like we had yesterday can really be a confidence builder,” McCorkle said Wednesday morning.

The win over the Syrupmakers improved the Bearcats’ season record to 3-2. They will host the Harris County High School Tigers in a Region 1-AAAAA game Friday at 6 p.m. at Bearcat Field.

The Syrupmakers scored one run in the third inning, and four in the fourth to build their early 5-0 lead.
Bainbridge scored one run in the fifth inning. Shortstop Ben Day singled with two outs and moved to second when catcher Blake Voyles walked. After designated hitter Cole Granato was hit by a pitch to load the bases, right field Jake Goodson walked to force in Day.

The Bearcats added three more runs in the sixth inning, to move within 5-4. First baseman Greg McDonald walked and second baseman Matt Burke singled with nobody out, to start the rally.

Pitcher Tate Lambert hit a one-out RBI single to score McDonald, and Voyles hit a two-run, two-out double to score Burke and Lambert.

McDonald and third baseman Jackson Jones both walked and scored runs in the seventh inning. Cairo pitchers issued six walks in the inning.
