The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars and Cougars varsity basketball teams posted victories over the Open Bible Christian School Lady Warriors and Warriors, on Thursday in Valdosta, Ga.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 33-11 halftime lead and never looked back on the way to a 61-29 victory, increasing their season record to 5-2.

The Cougars, who are also 5-2, defeated the Warriors, 69-43.

Emilee Murr led the Lady Cats with a season-high 23 points. Kelsey Harrell added 16 points, which is also her season high. The Lady Warriors, who are 2-3 for the season, were led by Rebekah Tew with 12 points. The Lady Cougars shot a season best 82-percent from the free throw line.

Rounding out the Lady Cougars’ scoring column were Shelby Woodrum with 12, Jasmin Kelly with eight and Lindsey Duke with two.

Coach Steve Murr said he liked his Cougars’ effort Thursday night.

“It was a very physical game and not very pretty at times, but overall the boys looked good for not having played since the Monday before Thanksgiving,” he said.

The Cougars led 38-22 at halftime. Jack McRae led all scorers with 18 points and his teammates Phillip Bowen and Brent Noble scored 15 apiece. Bryce McQuaid put in eight, Brent Warr added six, Austin McQuaid scored three and Jackson Harrell and Bailey Wood scored two each.

Grace’s varsity teams and junior varsity teams will host Ashford Academy on Monday and Southwest Georgia Academy on Tuesday, at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.

The Grace junior pro Lady Cougars and Cougars teams will play Terrell Academy and Sherwood Christian Academy on Saturday at St. Teresa in Albany, Ga.

The junior pro teams faced Southwest Georgia Academy in their season openers, last week.

The Lady Cougars, who lost 16-4, were led by Kate McRae and Caroline Wells with two points apiece.

The Cougars, who were edged 36-33, missed a buzzer-beater that would have tied the game. Tommy Murr led the Cougars with 28 points. Jeb Smith and Spence Butler scored two apiece and Jase Godwin added one.
