Boys take 2nd at track meet

The Bainbridge High School track teams performed well Saturday at the Westover High School Invitational track meet, in Albany, Ga.
The Bearcats finished as the second-place team, while the Lady Cats were seventh in a 19-team field.

Both teams were scheduled to participate in the Region 1-AAAAA track meet in Albany this week. The preliminaries were scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, and the finals for Thursday.

Bainbridge finished with 95 points, behind first-place Westover’s 104 and ahead of third-place Warner Robins’ 70.5.

Six Bearcats earned first-place medals at the meet. The 4-by-100 team of Justin Baker, Greg Cooper, Craig Cooper and Terry Lewis finished in first place, with a time of 42.54 seconds. A.J. Miller won the 400-meter run with a time of 50.24 and Chase Harris was first place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:00.57.

Terry Lewis finished in second place in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 11.09. Craig Cooper was second in the high jump, with a height of 6 feet even. The Bearcats also had two relay teams finish in second place — the 1,600 sprint medley team of Elijah Tyler, Cedric Jones, DeAndre Miller and Jevante Ross (3:45.88) and the distance medley team of Nathaniel Scott, Dreyvon Banks, Curtis Keaton and Harris (11:53.52).

Lewis placed third in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.53, and Josh Sheard placed third in the discus with a distance of 128 feet, 2 inches.

Other top-eight finishes were:

• Fourth place — 1,600-meter run (Chase Harris, 4:41.28); 4-by-400 relay (Terry Lewis, Jevante Ross, A.J. Miller and Justin Baker, 3:29.32); shot put (Jamez Harris, 43 feet, 10 inches).

• Sixth place — 300-meter hurdles (Derek Allen, 41.15); 800-meter run (Jevante Ross, 2:11.06).

• Eighth place — Long jump (Craig Cooper, 20 feet, 6 inches); shot put (Aquivious Carroll, 42 feet, 10 inches).

Girls results

Bainbridge’s girls team finished in seventh place, with 46 points. The winning team was Valdosta, with 109 points.

The Lady Cats were led by two-second place finishes. Porchia Green placed second in the high jump, with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches, and the distance medley team of Amari Smith, Brianna Turner, Amber Braswell and Paige Braswell finished second with a time of 14:27.35.
Paige Braswell finished in third place in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 12:39.14.

Other top-eight finishes were:

• Fourth place — 3,200-meter run (Amber Braswell, 13:19.04); 1,600-meter run (Paige Braswell, 6:03.67).

• Fifth place — 1,600-meter run (Amber Braswell, 6:16.86).
• Sixth place — 4-by-100 relay (Tereka Green, Tearnee Harvin, Jasmine Price, Deandrea Green, 50.13); 4-by-400 relay (Deandrea Green, Jasmine Price, Raven Burney, Tereka Green, 4:18.50); triple jump (Deandrea Green, 31 feet, 9 inches).

• Seventh place — 100-meter dash (Tearnee Harvin, 12.80).

• Eighth place — 100-meter hurdles (Brianna Turner, 18.53); 1,600 sprint medley (Aron Brown, Jameria Powell, LaJada Johnson, Kiara Clark, 5:04.69).
