Bainbridge High School Bearcats cross-country and track runner Jovonte Ross signed a scholarship Friday morning with the Brewton-Parker College Barons of Mount Vernon, Ga.

In October, Ross was named Bainbridge High School male winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman for the 2012-2013 school year. The honor recognized his excellence in academics, athletics and community and school leadership.

He was senior captain of coach Lisa Enfinger’s Bearcats cross-country team. Ross ran for Oldaker his junior year.

Ross finished third in the region cross-country meet, and is an honor roll student with a 3.4 grade point average.

Ross is also a “Golden Guide” and a member of the Bainbridge High School Future Farmers of America chapter.

In his track career, Ross has competed in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs and been on the 4-by-400-meter relay team.

He lists Oldaker, Enfinger, track coaches Larry Cosby and Dr. Larry Clark and cross- country community coach Greg Waddell as being positive influences in his life.
