The Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team lost 6-3 to the Northview High School Cougars on Wednesday in Dothan, Ala.
It was their first loss of the season following two victories.
The Bearcats scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
First baseman Jake Goodson ignited the rally with a one-out single. He moved up to second when left fielder Michael Faircloth drew a walk. Second baseman Ryals Smith then smashed a double to drive in both runners.
A walk, two stolen bases and a fielder’s choice produced a Cougars run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Bearcats lead to 2-1. They added five more in the top of the fifth to go ahead, 6-1.
The Bearcats scored their final run in the top of the sixth. Shortstop Ben Day opened the inning with a single, moved up to second on a walk to catcher Blake Voyles and scored on an error.
The Bearcats traveled to Columbus, Ga., on Friday to take on the Hardaway High School Golden Hawks, in their first Region 1-AAAAA game of the season.
They will travel to Cairo, Ga., on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. game with the Cairo High School Syrupmakers at Jackie Robinson Field, and return home Friday for a 6 p.m. Region 1-AAAAA game with the visiting Harris County High School Tigers.
