Bearcats win opener, 10-1

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats opened their 2013 baseball season at BHS Monday, with a 10-1 victory over the Dothan (Ala.) High School Tigers.

The win came in the opening round of the Southwest Georgia Farm Credit Bearcat Invitational Tournament.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Bearcats quickly went ahead 3-1 when catcher Blake Voyles blasted a three run homer.

Pitcher Tate Lambert, who reached on an error, and shortstop Ben Day, who got aboard on a fielder’s choice, were on base when Voyles connected.

The Bearcats added two runs more in the bottom of the fourth to go up 5-1. Second baseman Ryals Smith led off with a single and came in when right fielder Michael Faircloth hit an RBI double. Faircloth scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Bearcats concluded the scoring with two more in the fifth inning, and three in the sixth. Voyles drew a walk to open the fifth. He moved up to second when third baseman Jackson Jones reached on an error.

An RBI single by first baseman Jake Goodson and an error got the two runs home.

A single by Day and a walk to Jones put two on base with one out in the sixth. Goodson singled in Day and Jones scored on a sacrifice fly by Smith. Goodson scored the third run of the game on an error.
