Marcus Singletary, the former Pelham Middle School head baseball coach, has been named the Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats’ head baseball coach.
In Pelham, he was also Pelham High School Hornets assistant varsity baseball coach under coach Mike Paulk, working with infielders.
A 2001 graduate of Cairo High School, Singletary teaches social studies at BMS. He played baseball under former Cairo High School Syrupmakers head baseball coach Steve Bowers. Bowers was a former Bainbridge High School assistant baseball coach.
Singletary’s wife, the former Rachel Henderson, a 2003 Cairo High School graduate, is a mathematics teacher at Thomas County Central High School.
Singletary was a wide receiver on Cairo High School Syrupmakers football teams coached by Mike Hodges and Warren Fields.
He was a member of two region championship football teams and three teams that went to the state finals at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
“I am looking forward to working with Bearcats head varsity baseball coach Brian McCorkle,” Singletary said. “We will work hard in the middle-school program. My philosophy is that if you work hard good things will happen.”
After his tenure in Pelham, Singletary returned to Cairo, where he served as the Washington Middle School Tigers’ pitching coach and football offensive coordinator.
