Lady Cats edge Lady Trojans, 46-45

Bainbridge guard Tameria Levens hit a free throw with five seconds remaining, giving the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats a 46-45 win over the visiting Lee County High School Lady Trojans on Tuesday.
The victory improved the Lady Cats’ overall record to 7-12 and improved their Region 1-AAAAA record to 3-4.
The Lady Cats entered the fourth quarter with a 28-26 lead. Levens hit two free throws with 6:45 remaining and guard Alex Carter drove under the basket and put a layup in off the left glass with 6:26 remaining, giving the Bearcats a 32-26 advantage.
Joining Levens in the Lady Cats’ double-figure scoring column was center Patra Parris, with 11 points.
Levens hit a three-pointer and two free throws in the final minute to help seal the victory.
Briana Scott led the Lady Trojans with 16 points, and Katherine McConnell added 14.
The Lady Cats will resume play Friday when they host the Northside-Columbus High School Lady Patriots in a Region 1-AAAAA game.
They will travel to Columbus, Ga., on Saturday for a Region 1-AAAAA game with the Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks.
Bainbridge coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his team played well Tuesday.
“We made some big shots and played strong defense down the stretch,” he said.
