Coach Rickey McCullough’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats posted consecutive road and home basketball victories over the weekend.
On Friday, they traveled to Hamilton and defeated the Harris County High School Tigers, 69-56, in a Region 1-AAAAA game. On Saturday, they defeated the Cairo High School Syrupmakers, 40-30.
The Bearcats featured a balanced attack Friday night in Hamilton with four players scoring in double figures. Dontavius Marshall led the way with 20 points, Tyree Crump added 15, Stephen Johnson put in 11 and Justin Baker scored 10.
Deion Whitaker of the Tigers was the game’s leading scorer, with 23 points. Kyle Williams added 14 and Trey Conder scored 11.
Saturday night against the Syrupmakers, Marshall was the game’s leading scorer, with 13 points. Tyree Crump added eight points.
Stacy Martin and Trey Sparrow scored 12 apiece for the Syrupmakers.
Crump hit consecutive three-point jumpers midway through the fourth quarter to put the Bearcats up 34-25, and they continued to build their lead.
“We were able to get two victories over two good teams this weekend.” McCullough said Saturday night. “It’s tough to win a region game on the road, and Cairo is a longtime rival that always plays us tough.”
