The Bainbridge High School Bearcats split a pair of Region 1-AAAAA basketball games last weekend.
On Friday night in Leesburg, the Lee County High School Trojans edged the Bearcats by a 71-70 score. On Saturday night, the Bearcats defeated the visiting Hardaway High School Golden Hawks, 62-54.
The split improved the Bearcats’ season record to 11-4 overall, and 3-1 in the region.
On Friday night, Lee County’s Reggie Breedlove hit two free-throws with 24 seconds remaining, to give the Trojans their margin of victory.
The Bearcats had a couple of chances to pull out the win, but Dontavius Marshall’s shot with 10 seconds left and B.J. Cheatem’s shot at the buzzer were just off the mark.
“In Leesburg we led by 15 points in the fourth quarter, but give Lee County credit,” Bearcats head coach Rickey McCullough said, following Saturday night’s win over Hardaway. “They hung in and came back and got the victory. We had a couple of chances to pull it out in the end, but the shots just didn’t fall.”
Justin Crawford of Hardaway took game-scoring honors Saturday night, with 29 points.
The Bearcats had four players in double figures. Tyree Crump led the way with 16, Stephen Johnson and Justin Baker put in 12 apiece, and Marshall added 11.
The Bearcats, who took on the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets in a Region 1-AAAAA road game Tuesday, will host the Harris County High School Tigers in a Region 1-AAAAA game Saturday.
