The Bainbridge High School Bearcats wrestling team took to the mats at Florida High School in Tallahassee, Fla., this past weekend at the Florida Dual Invitationals.

Bainbridge took 10 of 14 spots to the tournament because of flu and strep viruses holding some of the wrestlers from participating. The Bearcats flew through the first round, dominating and taking an early lead on the competition.

The following rounds were pretty much the same story, with the Bearcats finishing with a second place spot overall behind Godby High School of Tallahassee. Bainbridge overtook Godby earlier in the meet, but with an incomplete team, Godby was able to pull ahead of Bainbridge due to forfeits in the weight classes that were not filled.

Eight of 10 wrestlers finished with medals, and they were: Nick Hancock, Damian Rackley, Tyler Storey and Jacob Trawick all finished in first place. Finishing in second were Ashton Cato and Josh Williams. In third were Hunter Odom, Tramiane McCray, and Brian Henry.

The most impressive performance come from senior captain, Jacob Trawick in the 182-pound class, who went undefeated on the day and had impressive wins over a two-time state qualifier from the Florida High Seminoles, and an outstanding region competitor from Lake City, Fla.

“Jacob made it to sectionals last year and looks to have a better performance this year,” Bainbridge wrestling coach Chad Smith said. “He offers great leadership and character skills for the other guys to follow. Jacob is an outstanding wrestler and person.”
