Lady Cougars named to all-state, all-region teams

Several members of the Grace Christian Academy volleyball team were recently named to all-state and all-region teams with the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA).
Junior outside hitter Melissa Mills was named first team All-Region 3-AA, as well as All-State, by the GISA coaches.
She was joined on the all-region first team by three other Lady Cougars — Kendi Castoro, Merrianna Parker and Kelsey Harrell. Another Grace player, Emilee Murr, was named as an honorable mention all-region player.
Mills led the Lady Cougars, who went 12-8 overall, finished second in Region 3-AA and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, with 207 kills, a 43-percent kill percentage and 113 aces. She also had 123 digs and an 84-percent serve percentage.
Castoro, a libero, led the team in digs with 173, and had 30 aces and a 92-percent serve percentage.
Parker, a sophomore setter, led the Lady Cougars with 332 assists. She also had 88 digs and a team-high 93-percent serve percentage. Despite missing six matches due to injury, freshman outside hitter Harrell had 49 kills, 55 aces, 83 digs and an 86-percent serve percentage.
Freshman middle hitter Murr finished with 49 kills, 109 digs and an 82-percent serve percentage.
