The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars and Cougars basketball teams swept the Emmanuel Christian School Lady Warriors and Warriors, from Dothan, Ala., on Monday at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.
The Lady Cougars, who are 8-2 overall, won 54-24 and the Cougars, who are 6-4 overall, won 79-69 in overtime.
Emilee Murr led the Lady Cougars with 18 points, Kelsey Harrell added eight and Shelby Woodrum put in two.
The Cougars were led by freshman Jack McRae, with a career-high 35 points. Also in double figures for the Cougars were Phillip Bowen with 17, Brent Noble with 15 and Bryce McQuaid with 10. Brent Warr scored two.
McQuaid hit six of seven crucial free throws down the fourth quarter stretch to get the game to overtime. The Warriors were led by 6-foot-8 center Cody Lewis, with 21 points.
Lady Cougars and Cougars coach Steve Murr liked the efforts of his two teams Monday night.
“In the first game we were able to get some girls who have been working hard in practice, but not seeing much game time early in the season, some playing time,” Murr said. “I told our guys we wanted to play a faster pace game and they did that in the second half.”
The Cougars trailed 27-26 at halftime, then scored 53 points in the second half and overtime.
The Lady Cougars and Cougars will open their Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) schedule when they host Valdosta’s Highland Christian Academy on Friday night.
