15 Bearcats make All-Region football team

Coach Ed Pilcher’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats placed nine first-teamers, four second-teamers and two honorable-mention selections on the 2012 All-Region 1-AAAAA football team, released this week by region statistitian Chip Ariail.
The Region 1-AAAAA offensive player of the year was junior quarterback Adam Choice of Thomas County Central, the Region 1-AAAAA defensive player of the year was senior defensive back Marvin James of Harris County and the Region 1-AAAAA coach of the year was Harris County head coach Tommy Parks, who led the Tigers to the region championship.
Bearcats on the first team offense were senior running back Terry Lewis, who had 141 carries for 1,119 yards and 13 touchdowns; senior tackle Tim Shaw; and junior place kicker Daniel Provence, who converted 37 of 39 extra point attempts and four of six field goal attempts.
Bearcats named to the first team All-Region 1-AAAAA defense included senior defensive end Daryl McGee, who had 70 tackles — 44 solo and 26 assisted — and 10 tackles for a loss, and senior linebacker James Harris, who had 92 tackles — 62 solo and 30 assisted — eight tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.
Also making the first team defense as an all-purpose selection was senior linebacker B.J. Cheatem, who had 90 tackles — 56 solo and 34 assisted — two tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and three interceptions.
Also among the first-team defensive selections was senior defensive back, quarterback and receiver Cameron McDowell, who had 44 tackles — 36 solo and eight assisted — and five interceptions, which he returned for 64 yards.
McDowell, who also made second team All-Region 1-AAAAA as a return specialist, had eight kickoff returns for 222 yards and 14 punt returns for 146 yards.
Bearcats senior defensive back Dontavious Baulkman and senior punter Paul Soden also made the All-Region 1-AAAAA first defensive team.
Baulkman led the Bearcats in tackles with 93 — 59 solo and 34 assisted. He had four tackles for a loss. Soden had 36 punts for 1379 yards, and a 38.3 yards per punt average, including a long punt of 55 yards.
Bearcats making the second team All-Region 1AAAAA offense were senior offensive guard and long snapper Andre Jeglinski and senior running back and quarterback Damian Bouie, who had 155 carries for 1,006 yards, and a team-leading 14 touchdowns.
On the second team all-region defense was senior linebacker Marshall Mack, who had 87 tackles — 53 solo and 34 assisted — nine tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Bearcats offensive honorable mention all-region selections were senior center Cole Granato and junior tackle Chris Johnson.
