7th grade teams sweep Whigham

The Bainbridge Middle School seventh-grade Lady Cats and Bearcats basketball teams won a pair of close Monday games over the Whigham Middle School seventh-grade Lady Indians and Indians, at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
The Lady Cats edged the Lady Indians, 26-25, and the Bearcats defeated the Indians, 39-33. Both teams are now 3-2 for the season.
Leading the way for the Lady Cats were Cheteria Jones and Kiara King, with seven points apiece. Tyra Smart added four.
Rounding out the Lady Cats’ scoring chart were Chelsea Hall with three; Jasmine Rainey, Kayla Cooper, Latisha Cosby and Jasmine Bell, all with two points; and Delia Ferguson with one point.
The Bearcats were led by Kendall Lodman, with a game-high 11 points. James Dismuke and Travis Campbell scored nine apiece, and Dontavious Kinder scored five. Desmond Thomas added two points.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 14-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. They outscored the Indians 10-7 in the second quarter to increase their halftime lead to 24-11. Both teams scored five points in the third quarter, and they went to the fourth quarter with the Bearcats on top 29-16.
The Lady Cats and Bearcats will conclude their seasons Thursday when they host the Thomas County Middle School seventh-grade Lady Yellow Jackets and Yellow Jackets. The girls game will get under way at 4:30 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
