Bearcats wrestlers impressive at home

The Bainbridge High School and Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats wrestling teams posted impressive home victories Thursday at the former West Bainbridge Middle School Gymnasium.
The high-school Bearcats took on the Americus-Sumter County High School Panthers and the Pelham High School Hornets, and the middle-school Bearcats took on the Pelham Middle School Hornets.
“We jumped out to a huge lead and never looked back,” Bearcats varsity coach Chad Smith said. “We beat Americus-Sumter County 66-6.
“We beat Pelham 48-18 after starting strong and struggling through the middle weight classes. Wrestlers who really dominated for us were Tyler Storey, Hayden Guy and senior Josh Sheard, who won both of their matches.”
Other high-school winners were Nick Hancock, Hunter Odom, Ashton Cato, Latavious Baker, Isaiah Brown, Derrell Dukes, Brandon Crawford and Austin White.
Posting wins for the middle-school Bearcats were Perry Birdsong, Dalton Harrell, Tristen Manly, Alex Wimberly, Jimmy Nix, Mathew Bunch, Griffin Long, Zion McGee, Larone Broadnax, Noah Bryant, Karenski Williams, Ryan Adams and Bryce Vaughn.
Smith said he was very proud of all the wrestlers’ efforts Thursday.
“Our guys performed exactly how they needed to in front of a large home crowd,” he said. “They showed heart and put on a show. I am extremely proud of them and their growth. The middle-school wrestlers exceeded our expectations and hopefully will return to practice on Monday ready to learn and continue to get better.”
