Local runners Harris, Harrell honored

Local runners Chase Harris, of the Bainbridge High School Bearcats, and Perra Harrell, of the Westwood School Lady Wildcats of Camilla, Ga., have been named to the Georgia Milesplit South of the Border cross-country team.
Harris was named to the first team. He finished second in the Region 1-AAAAA Meet in Columbus, Ga., completing the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in a time of 17:02, and led the Bearcats to the Region championship.
Harrell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Harrell of Bainbridge, was named to the second team. She won the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) girls state championship, in Albany, Ga., with a personal best 5,000-meter time of 20:09.
Harrell’s girls state cross-country championship was Westwood’s first in the 15-year history of the program. She was also region champion.
