FOOTBALL CHAMPION: Daniel Bivins won a state football championship ring with the Concordia College Hornets, in Selma, Ala.

Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats linebacker Daniel Bivins, the son of the Rev. Adren and Sylvia Bivins, and his Concordia College Hornets, of Selma, Ala., won the Independent Historical Black Colleges state football championship last season.

Bivins, who now plays for the University of West Georgia Wolves in Carrollton, recently received his championship ring.

Bivins is a 2010 graduate of Bainbridge High School, where he played outside linebacker, defensive end and fullback under three Bainbridge head coaches.

He played one year under coach Greg Guy, one year under coach Ricky Woods and two years under coach Ed Pilcher.

Bivins is majoring in heath and physical education, and would like to get into high school coaching after graduation.

He said his childhood dream was always to play college and professional football.

“My father was my first coach at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA and he and all my other coaches trained me well,” he said. “I also received strong training at several summer football camps.”
