I’m thankful for lots of things

I want to wish all my dear friends and news sources a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.
As sports editor of this fine newspaper, I feel very blessed and thankful to have had the opportunity to cover outstanding Bainbridge and Decatur County young men and young ladies in their sports endeavors the past 42 years.
I have covered children and grandchildren of athletes I covered during my initial year at The Post-Searchlight, in 1970.
I want to thank former Post-Searchlight owner and publisher Sam Griffin, his dear wife Mary Ann and his dear late father, former Georgia Governor Marvin Griffin, for giving a young inexperienced college graduate a chance 42 years ago.
I also want to thank Post-Searchlight publisher Jeff Findley and all the fine people at Boone Newspapers for supporting me and allowing me to continue in a job I love.
I am also thankful for my dear friend, Billy Simmons Jr. A dedicated employee of the Bainbridge Walmart, Billy daily inspires me and others with the way he daily overcomes his disability with a smile.
I am very thankful to my wonderful family this Thanksgiving as well.
Saturday, I had the opportunity to visit my brother and sister-in-law Tom and Cheryl Crine in Sharpsburg.
While there, I had the opportunity to see my nephew Billy Crine and his dear wife Amelia, and spoil their cute 17-month-old daughter and my great niece Evangeline a little. I am looking forward to seeing them again at Christmas.
I am also thankful for my niece Jennifer, her husband Derek Roberts and their 5-year-old son (and my great-nephew) Samuel Lincoln “Linc” Roberts and all the joy they bring to my life.
I am sure my readers and news sources are thankful for many of the same things I am thankful for during this uniquely American holiday season.
While we enjoy our Thanksgiving turkey dinners with our families and friends and watch a little football on television Thursday, we should take time to thank the good Lord for the many blessings he has bestowed upon us throughout the last year.
