Eighth grade Bearcats win with comeback

The Bainbridge Middle School eighth-grade Bearcats outscored Thomasville’s Douglas Middle School eighth-grade Bulldogs, 30-8, in the fourth quarter Thursday, to pull out a 38-30 road victory.

Trailing 22-8 entering the final quarter, the Bearcats quickly cut the advantage to 28-16 on a 2-yard Dalvin Spivey touchdown run up the middle, and a two-point Spivey conversion run around the right side.

They pulled even at 22-22, when Spivey ran in from 5 yards out. The two-point conversion attempt was stopped short.

The Bulldogs bounced back to take the lead, 30-22, on a quarterback sneak for a touchdown and a two-point conversion run.

‘With Bearcats then pulled back even 30-30, on a 40-yard touchdown run by Spivey and a two-point conversion pass from quarterback Eddie Cooper to wide receiver Lance Cosby.

Spivey ran 25 yards for a touchdown and ran in for the two-point conversion to seal the victory with just under a minute remaining.

The Bearcats, who are 2-3 for the season, will have an open date next Thursday, Oct. 11.

They will travel to Cairo on Thursday, Oct. 18, for a 5 p.m. regular season ending game against the Washington Middle School eighth-grade Tigers, at Cairo High School.

Eighth-grade Bearcats head coach Scott Starr thought his team and Douglas both played well Thursday.

“It was a really exciting eighth-grade football game,” he said. “Both teams played hard and well.”
