Junior varsity defeats Cairo, 14-6

The Bainbridge High School junior-varsity Bearcats defeated the Cairo High School junior varsity Syrupmakers, 14-6, Thursday at Cairo’s West Thomas Stadium.

Quarterback Hayden Guy ran off the left side for 8 yards and a touchdown to give the Bearcats a 6-0 second-quarter lead. Running back Isaiah Brown was stopped short on an attempted two-point conversion run.

A 50-yard second-quarter fumble return for a touchdown by the Tigers pulled them even, 6-6, at halftime.

Quarterback Elijah Tyler ran an option off the left side for 20 yards and a touchdown, then ran in for the two-point conversion, to put the final points on the board in the fourth quarter.

The junior-varsity Bearcats, who are 2-1 for the season, will return to action next Thursday, Sept. 27.

They will host the Thomas County Central High School junior-varsity Yellow Jackets at 5 p.m. at Centennial l Field.

Bearcats offensive line and tight ends coach Tom Wheeler, who coaches the junior varsity Bearcats with receivers coach Larry Cosby, said the team is getting better each week on offense and defense.

“Every one is hustling, playing hard and getting a lot of valuable experience,” Wheeler said.
