Cairo’s Washington Middle School eighth-grade Tigers defeated the Bainbridge Middle School eighth-grade Bearcats, 30-6, Thursday at Centennial Field.

With 6:14 left in the third quarter, Bearcats quarterback Eddie Cooper threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyler Jackson, cutting the lead to 22-6. Cooper tried to run in for the two-point conversion, but was stopped just short.

D.J. James ran 60 yards for a touchdown with 52 seconds left in the game and ran in for the two-point conversion, putting the final eight points on the board.

The eighth-grade Bearcats will return to action next Thursday, Sept. 22, when they host the Thomas County Central Middle School eighth-grade Yellow Jackets, at 5 p.m., at Centennial Field.
