The Bainbridge Middle School seventh-grade Bearcats football team improved their record to 2-1, with a 20-14 Wednesday victory over Washington Middle School’s seventh-grade Tigers at Centennial Field.
Dameon Pierce and Malique Pate, who alternate between quarterback and running back, were involved in all three Bearcats touchdowns.
Pierce took a pitch from Pate and ran 7 yards for a touchdown to give the Bearcats a 6-0 first-quarter lead. Pate tried to run in for the two-point conversion, but was stopped short.
Pierce threw to Pate for 25 yards and a touchdown early in the second quarter, then ran off right tackle for the two point conversion to give the Bearcats a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Tigers cut it to 14-6 early in the third quarter, scoring on a 55-yard sweep around the left side. They tried to run in for the two-point conversion, but the Bearcats’ defense came up to stop them short.
Bearcats linebacker Darius Adams intercepted a pass to stop another potential Tigers scoring drive.
In the fourth quarter, Pate ran a sweep around the left side for 12 yards and a touchdown, putting the Bearcats up 20-6.
The Tigers’ final touchdown came on a 10 yard fourth quarter run.
The seventh-grade Bearcats will return to action next Wednesday, Sept. 26, when they host the Thomas County Central Middle School seventh-grade Yellow Jackets at 5 p.m. at Centennial Field.
