Lady Cats sweep Lady Trojans

Coach Eugene Singletary’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team improved their record to 12-7 with a 5-3, 12-3 doubleheader sweep over the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans on Monday, in Quitman, Ga.

The Lady Cats grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, in game one.

Second baseman Caitlin Cato was hit by a pitch with one out, and moved up to second when winning pitcher Brooke Bates was safe on an error.

A passed ball moved the runners up to second and third and they came home on an error and a fielder’s choice.

The Lady Cats added a run in the second and two more in the third. The second-inning run was scored by centerfielder Morgan Phillips, who reached on an error, moved up to second and third on an error and a wild pitch, and scored on a passed ball.

Bates, who singled, and catcher Lindsey Griner, who drew a walk, scored the Lady Cats’ two third- inning runs.

In game two, the Lady Cats put the game away with a seven-run fifth-inning rally.

The key blow in the inning was a two-run single by right fielder Brittany Moore, who went to second on a passed ball and came in on a single by shortstop Laura Griner.

The junior-varsity and varsity Lady Cats returned to action Tuesday, when they traveled to Donalsonville, Ga., for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. games with the Seminole County High School Lady Indians.

They are hosting the Crisp County High School Lady Cougars junior varsity and varsity today, Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. They will travel to face the Thomas County Central Middle School Lady Yellow Jackets in Region 1-AAAAA action Thursday at 4 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. in Thomas County.

Saturday, the Lady Cats will be in Region 1-AAAAA games against the Northside-Columbus High School junior-varsity and varsity Lady Patriots at 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., in Columbus, Ga.
