Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats defensive tackle Tarow Barney of Climax met the media Monday, August 27 along with his Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers football teammates in Senatobia, Miss.
A senior defensive tackle for the Bearcats in 2011 under head coach Ed Pilcher, he was signed by Rangers head coach and former Bearcats head coach Ricky Woods in March.
Following the signing, coach Woods said defensive tackle was one of the Rangers biggest need positions and he thought Barney could help the team there.
Coach Pilcher said he is very proud of Barney who was unable to play for the Bearcats his first three years because of cronic asthma.
“Tarow came out this year and played extremely well,” coach Pilcher said at the signing
The Rangers are only able to sign eight players outside the state of Mississippi each year.
During his return visit to Bainbridge High School to sign Barney, coach Woods, who led the Bearcats to a 7-3 record and into the state class AAAA playoffs in 2007, said that season was the most enjoyable year of his coaching career.
