Lady Cougars sweep Ashford, improve to 2-0

Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars soccer team improved their record to 2-0, with a straight-sets 3-0 victory over the Ashford (Ala.) Academy Lady Falcons, at Perry Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars won the first set 25-11, took the second set 25-9 and captured the third set 25-13.

Harrell said junior outside hitter Melissa Mills led the way.

“Melissa Mills played strong and very confident,” he said. “She had eight kills and played strong and very confident.

“Junior libero Kendi Castoro provided excellent defense and her serves were working. Seven of her 13 serves were aces. She also had four digs, and a serve percentage of 92 percent.”

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Harrell had five kills. Sophomore setter Merrianna Parker had 14 assists and a serve percentage of 93 percent.

The Lady Cougars and the Grace Middle School Lady Cougars traveled to Ozark, Ala., on Friday for games with Dale County Christian School’s high-school and middle-school Lady Crusaders.

They will return to action Tuesday, when they travel to Dothan, Ala., for 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. middle-school and high-school games with the Emmanuel Christian School Lady Warriors.
