Lady Cats defeat Seminole County, 8-3

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team defeated the Seminole County High School Lady Indians, 8-3, in Bainbridge on Tuesday, to improve their season record to 7-3.

They built a 4-0 lead in the first three innings. Right hander Brooke Bates, who pitched the complete game, picked up her third consecutive victory.

The Lady Cats took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. They added their fourth run in the bottom of the third.

Third baseman Caitlin Cato opened the bottom of the first with a single and moved up to second when Laura Griner drew a walk.

The runners went to second and third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a single by Megan Vaughn. Vaughn went to second on a passed ball and came in on a single by Bates.

The Lady Cats’ third-inning run was scored by Maegan Harrison, who walked, went to second on a single by Vaughn and scored on a double by pitcher Bates.

The Lady Indians scored their first run in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Cats came right back with two in the bottom of the fourth to build their lead to 6-1.

Cato led off the fourth with a single. She went to second when Griner was safe on a fielder’s choice. Anna Barber then tripled home Cato and Griner.

The Lady Indians scored their second run in the top of the sixth to cut it to 6-2, but the Lady Cats countered with their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Cato reached on an error to open the bottom of the sixth, and scored on a triple by Griner. Griner scored on a fielder’s choice. The Lady Indians scored their final run in the top of the seventh.
