Lady Cats win two, improve to 6-3

Coach Eugene Singletary’s Bainbridge  High School Lady Cats softball team improved their record to 6-3, with a pair of recent consecutive victories.

Thursday, they defeated the Valdosta High School Lady Wildcats, 12-1, in Valdosta, Ga., and Friday they shut out the Turner County High School Lady Rebels 12-0, in Bainbridge. Brooke Bates was the winning pitcher in both games.

The Lady Cats grabbed a  4-0 lead over the Lady Wildcats in the top of the first inning Thursday.

The first run was scored by Caitlin Cato, who walked, moved up to second and third on wild pitches and tagged up and came home on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Anna Barber.

Shortstop Laura Griner scored the inning’s second run. She walked, went to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a double by left fielder Megan Vaughn.

Vaughn and Bates, who came in on a single by first baseman Caitlyn Dunlap, scored the inning’s final two runs.

The Lady Cats added five more runs in the second inning. Key blows in the inning were RBI singles by Cato, Vaughn and Dunlap.

The  Lady Cats had another four-run first inning, on their way to their big win over Turner County.

Cato, Laura Griner, Barber and Maegan Harrison all walked and came around to score.
