Middle-school weight training begins in July

Bainbridge Middle School football coordinator Scott Starr and his seventh- and eighth-grade coaching staffs will start middle school weight training for rising seventh and eighth graders in July.
The middle school weight room will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, and Thursday, July 12, Monday, July 16, and Thursday, July 19, and Monday, July 23, and Thursday, July 26.
Starr is beginning his fifth year as Decatur County School System middle-school football coordinator.
Before taking over the middle-school football programs, Starr spent two seasons coordinating the Bainbridge High School ninth-grade football programs, one under Bearcats head coach Greg Guy and one under Bearcats head coach Ricky Woods.
He was a member of former Decatur County School Superintendent Ralph Jones’s 1990 Cairo High School Syrupmakers’ State Class AAA football champion coaching staff.
He coached the defensive secondary in Cairo and was the Syrupmakers’ head track coach for 18 years.
He won five region track championships at Cairo and four at Fitzgerald High School.
Starr’s 1987 Fitzgerald High School Purple Hurricanes track team won the state championship.
