Bainbridge native Stanley Bell, a former third baseman for the Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team and offensive tackle for the Bearcats football team, has been enjoying his new job as Bainbridge Leisure Services Department athletic director.
Bell, son of Morrell Bell Jr. and Barbara Bell, went on to Albany State University where he was a right handed pitcher for the Golden Rams baseball team. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education and recreation from Albany State in 2007.
Before returning to Bainbridge, Bell spent four and a half years as program and youth sports director at the Albany Recreation Department.
He was a 2002 graduate of Bainbridge High School, where he played baseball under coach Heath Horn and coach Ell Willis and football under coach Bob Christmas and coach Greg Guy.
He was also a member of the Bainbridge High School national honor society.
A very talented vocalist, Bell was a member of the choral at Bainbridge High School and Albany State.
Before being named athletic director, he was Leisure Services adult sports director and head lifeguard at the Potter Street Pool. His brothers Morrell Bell and Xavier Bell played tennis at Bainbridge High School.
Leisure Services program director Diane Atkinson said Bell was a solid pick for the position.
“Stanley Bell is a local young man who has a solid background in recreation,” she said. “We like to keep talented young people like him at home. I am sure he will do an outstanding job in his new position.”
