Bainbridge High School Bearcats head football coach Ed Pilcher said he is pleased with the progress his team made during their 10 days of spring practice, which ended Thursday.

“The pace of the workouts has been really good,” he said Friday morning. “Defensively we have really gotten after it and offensively we have shown continual improvement.”

Pilcher has been paricularly pleased with the play of his linebackers.

“Senior linebackers Marshall Mack has been slowed by a slight injury but he has really played well all spring,” he said. “So have senior linebackers B.J. Cheatem and Jamez Harris.”

Pilcher also talked about the play of Devon Smith, a rising senior wide receiver who has moved in from Clearwater, Fla.

“He has really looked good at wide receiver,” Pilcher said, referring to Smith. “He and our other 32 seniors provide us with a lot of strong leadership.

“Offensively seniors Terry Lewis and Damian Bouie have really run the ball well. They had strong junior seasons and they are really looking forward to their senior seasons.”

Following Thursday’s final spring workout, Pilcher urged the players to work hard in the weight room in preparation for pre-season drills.
