The play of the defense has impressed head coach Ed Pilcher, as his Bainbridge High School Bearcats continue to work in spring practice.

“Our linebackers, Marshall Mack, B.J. Cheatem and Jamez Harris have really been playing well,” Pilcher said. “Offensively returning running backs Terry Lewis and Damian Bouie have been running hard and well, and the offensive line is doing a good job of blocking for them.

Pilcher said both Preston Norris and Cameron McDowell are currently seeing some time at quarterback.

“We need some people to step up at defensive tackle, where we lost two good ones in Region 1AAAA defensive player of the year Shammai Wilburn and Tarow Barney,” he said. “A lot of players are stepping up at different positions and that is good. The pace of our workouts are not yet exactly where we want them, but they are getting better.”

The Bearcats will conclude their 10 days of spring practice sessions on Wednesday, May 16.

“We could have some kind of controlled scrimmage on the last day,” Pilcher said. “We are just not sure yet.

“Our coaches are doing a good job of preparing our young men. They are working them hard and they are responding well.”
