Track teams 2nd, 4th

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats track team finished in second place and the Lady Cats took fourth Thursday, at the Region 1-AAAA Meet at Albany’s Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track.

The top four finishing individuals and relay teams from the eight Georgia Class AAAA Regions will advance to the sectionals this Saturday at Stars Mill High School in Fayette County, near Atlanta.

The Bearcats’ second-place finish ended a string of 12 consecutive region championships.

First place was captured by the Warner Robins High School Demons.

Bainbridge’s Rhyan Edwards won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.44 seconds, and his teammate Terry Lewis was fourth in a time of 23.52.

The Bearcats’ Hubert Thomas and Edwards were second and third in the 400-meter dash, with times of 49.64 and 50.07.

Bainbridge’s Dontarius Jackson sprinted home first in the 110-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.26. He was also third in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 39.47.

The Bearcats’ 4-by-100-meter relay team of Lewis, Edwards, Martez Vickers and Craig Cooper was third, with a time of 43.88.

Alton Miller, Edwards, Thomas and Jackson won the 4-by-400-meter relay, with a time of 3:24.84.

Cooper won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, and Joshua Sheard was third in the discus, with a throw of 131 feet, 7 inches.

In girls competition, Bainbridge’s Raven Burney won the long jump, with a distance of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Bainbridge’s Khadeeijah Cooper was second in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 45.92, while her teammate Diamond Bouie was third, with a time of 47.36.

The Bainbridge 4-by-400-meter relay team of Cooper, Bouie, Burney and Jasmine Price finished third, with a time of 4:07.31.

Bouie was second in the high jump, with a jump of 5 feet, while Bainbridge’s Porchia Green was fourth, with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches.

Bainbridge’s Amber Braswell placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 13:16.73.
