Bearcats defeat Pirates, 5-3

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team defeated the Sneads (Fla.) High School Pirates, 7-5, Monday, in Sneads.

Monday’s win evened the Bearcats season record at 10-10. They scored a run in the top of the third to increase their lead to 2-0.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Pitcher Tate Lambert opened the inning with a single, moved up to second when centerfielder Jake Goodson grounded out to third, and came home on an RBI single by catcher Cole Granato.

Lambert again led off the top of the third inning with a single, moved up to second when Goodson grounded out, stole third and came home on a fielder’s choice.

The Pirates pushed across a run in the bottom of the third to cut it to 2-1.

Bainbridge scored another run in the top of the fourth to go up 3-1, but the Pirates came right back with two in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

First baseman Jordan Cox doubled to open the Bearcats’ fourth and came in on a double by second baseman Kyle Horne.

The Bearcats added two runs in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the seventh to move ahead, 7-3.

Lambert led off the top of the fifth with a walk, reached second on a passed ball, moved to third on an error, and came in when Granato singled. Granato moved up on a fielder’s choice and eventually scored on an error.

The Bearcats traveled to Thomas County on Friday night for a Region 1-AAAA double header against the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets.

Bainbridge will conclude its regular season Monday with a 5:30 p.m. game against the Westover High School Patriots, in Albany, Ga.
