Coach Jamie Ard’s Region 1-AAAA South Sub-Region champion Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team completed their regular season last week, with a pair of 3-0 shutout wins.

On Thursday they clinched their Sub-Region title with a 3-0 victory over the Lee County High School Trojans at Centennial Field, and on Friday they shutout the Berrien County High School Rebels 3-0, in Nashville, Ga., to improve their final regular season record to 12-3.

On Tuesday, the Bearcats hosted the Northside-Columbus High School Patriots, the No. 4 team from Region 1-AAAA North, in the first round of the Region 1-AAAA playoffs. That game was not complete by press time.

Daniel Provence opened the scoring in the 19th minute Thursday against Lee County, after taking a pass from Emiliano Rivera. Provence scored again in the 21st minute to make it 2-0. He took another pass from Rivera, who got the ball on a quick throw in from Lenorris Flanders.

Joshua Flanders concluded the night’s scoring in the 80th minute. He took a pass from Louis Mejia and got the ball past the Trojans goalkeeper.

Ard said he was pleased with his team’s Thursday play.

“Thursday night we had to beat Lee County by three to win the sub-region,” Ard said. “It looked like we would not get that third crucial goal because we entered the final minute of the game with only two.

“The guys never gave up. They just kept pressing and pressing and some thing good finally happened in the last minute when Louis Mejia played the ball over to Joshua Rivera and he slid the shot right past the goalkeeper.”
