The Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team defeated the Dothan (Ala.) High School Tigers, 5-1, Wednesday in Dothan.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead when Justin McDonald hit a home run over the right field fence, but the Bearcats bounced back with five unanswered runs.

With the win, the Bearcats improved their record to 7-7. They hosted the Lee County High School Trojans in a double header Friday at Bearcat Field.

The Bearcats scored all five runs against Dothan in the top of the second inning.

Pitcher Jake Goodson and first baseman Jordan Cox drew consecutive walks to open the inning. With one out, left fielder Trevor Watts singled, driving in Goodson. Centerfielder Tate Lambert later singled to drive in Cox.

A double by second baseman Brandon Bates drove in Watts and Lambert. Catcher Blake Voyles got Bates across with a double.

Third baseman Jackson Jones doubled to lead off the Bearcats’ fifth inning, but was stranded.

Goodson pitched two innings, Rion Murrah pitched three innings and Matt Burke and Lambert pitched an inning apiece.

Bearcats head coach Scott Miller was pleased by his pitchers’ performances against Dothan.

“We used four pitchers and they all turned in strong efforts,” he said.
