The Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team dropped a tight 2-0 Region 1AAAA decision to the Lee County High School Trojans Friday night in Leesburg.

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when a Bearcats defensive miscue gave the Trojans the ball around midfield.

“Lee County had the ball with numbers going forward on the attack,” Bearcats coach Jamie Ard said.

“They added their final goal in the 42nd minute after winning the ball off the Bainbridge back line of defenders and capitalizing on a quick easy goal.”

Coach Ard said preparation and focus were the difference in the game.

“Lee County was simply more prepared and focused to play the game than we were,” he said. “They were obviously hungry for the win and it showed from the opening whistle. Their coach did a better job than I did of getting his team ready to play.

“They played a fast tempo all night long. They won balls and quickly advanced them forward towards our goal in an organized way.

“We were kind of passive in our efforts to win the ball out of the air, and we were too indecisive with what we wanted to do when we did win the ball.

“Overall, we played a very sloppy game. Lee County played very well, but we certainly did not do ourselves any favors with the way we played on the night.”
