Coach Jamie Ard’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team shut out the Worth County High School Rams, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in Sylvester.

The Bearcats opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Louis Mejia scored on a penalty kick, following a handball in the penalty box.

Daniel Provence increased the advantage to 2-0 in the 19th minute when he took a pass from Emilio Hernandez, shot from the top of the penalty area, and curled the ball past the goalkeeper and into the top netting of the goal.

Carlos Becerra made it 3-0 with a goal in the 40th minute. He took a pass on the wing from Louis Mejia, and beat his defender to convert the goal.

In the 55th minute, Emiliano Rivera took a pass from his brother Joshua, went around a Worth County defender and put the ball into the net for the fourth goal.

Ard said he liked his team’s focus against Worth County.

“Because we were focused, our play was better than it has been,” he said. “We improved when we focused on the task at hand. The midfielders and forwards moved the ball better at times.

“I am seeing some signs of how I would like us to play on a game-to-game basis. I want to play at a pretty fast pace when we have the ball and we are still learning how to work together to accomplish this.

“I was happy we were able to beat a good team like Worth County that was undefeated coming into the game.

“Although the back line of Villeser Sarmiento, Kimani Crawford, Lenorris Flanders and Ricardo Campost played a little sloppy for my taste at times, they did not give up a goal. Campost was probably was our most consistent, solid player on the day. He played a great defensive game for us. Dominic Douglas was also strong in goal.”
