Bainbridge’s Lady Cats were there the night the lights went out in Georgia.

On Tuesday, Bainbridge fell 66-52 in a Region 1-AAAA South Sub-Region game to the Lee County High School Lady Trojans, in Leesburg, Ga. The game was certainly a unique one, as a power outage in the second quarter delayed the game for 40 minutes and eventually forced one team to travel to Lee County Middle School’s gymnasium in anticipation of finishing the game there.

“We were playing late in the second quarter at the Lee County High School Gymnasium when a power surge knocked the lights out,” Bainbridge coach Kelvin Cochran said.

“When the power did not come back on after a nearly-40-minute wait, the decision to finish the game at the Lee County Middle School gymnasium was made.

‘The Lee County team had already arrived at the middle school gymnasium and we were boarding our bus to go there when someone came out and informed us that the lights had come back on. Their team came back and we all went back in and finished the game”.

The loss dropped the Lady Cats to 14-9 on the season, heading into Friday night’s regular-season-ending home game against the Randolph Clay High School Lady Red Devils. Bainbridge finished second in the sub-region, behind Lee County.

The Lady Cats will play Columbus’s Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks, the No. 3 team in Region 1-AAAA North, in the first round of the Region 1-AAAA Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Northside Columbus High School. The tournament continues through Saturday, Feb. 18.

Briana Wade led the Lady Cats in scoring Tuesday night, with 17 points. Ri’Chana Jackson was also in double figures, with 10.

They were followed in the Lady Cats’ scoring column by Takeia Crankfield with eight points, Diamond Bouie with six, and Alex Carter with five.

Lee County’s DaQuenna Moore took game-scoring honors with 24 points. Her Lady Trojans teammate Katherine McConnell was also in double figures with 12.
