The Bainbridge High School ninth-grade Bearcats defeated the Cottondale (Fla.) High School ninth-grade Hornets 58-41 Saturday, Jan. 21, in Cottondale, to complete their 2011-2012 season with a perfect 9-0 record.

Tyree Crump led the way for the Bearcats with 15 points and Trey Miller added 12. Malik Middleton put in nine.

Rounding out the Bearcats’ scoring chart were Tavarious Bowens with six points, Derrick Jones with five, Trey Webb with four, Devonte Campbell, Damion Sapp, and Jay Levens, all with two, and Trey Webb with one.

Chris Hall scored 14 to lead the Hornets.

The Bearcats led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, 39-19 at halftime and 53-31 after three quarters. The Hornets outscored the Bearcats 10-5 in the fourth quarter.

Bearcats ninth-grade coach Brandon Ingram said he thought his team made a lot of progress during the season.

“We improved from game to game,” he said. “We played hard every game and our defense was solid.”
