Dontavius Marshall poured in a game-high 19 points Tuesday night in Cuthbert, Ga., leading the Bainbridge High School Bearcats to a 70-55 victory over the Randolph Clay High School Red Devils.

Bainbridge coach Rickey McCullouggh said the victory, which improved the Bearcats’ season record to 11-4, was achieved through a  balanced scoring effort.

“Dontavius Marshall stepped up and had a strong scoring performance last night,” McCullough said Wednesday morning. “We have been putting together some solid balanced team scoring efforts night after night.

“That makes it difficult for opposing defenses to concentrate on any one player. It seems like we have a different player step up and provide a spark every game. We have also been playing well defensively and causing some turnovers.”

Paul Chukes scored 11 against the Red Devils and Rodney Glenn and Dillen Thomas put in nine apiece.

Gary McCrae and Deandre Littleton combined for 27 to pace the Red Devils attack. McCrae scored 17 and Littleton put in 10.

The Bearcats trailed 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Red Devils 20-12 in the second quarter to take a 29-25 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Bearcats scored 17 and held the Red Devils to just eight, to head to the fourth quarter with a 46-33 lead. They then outscored them 24-22 in the fourth quarter, to put the game away.

Filling out the Bearcats’ scoring column Tuesday night were Trea Kelly with six points, B.J. Cheatem with five, Mike Jones with four, Justin Baker with three, and Greg Lee and Mez Harris with two apiece.

The Bearcats will return to action tonight, traveling to Colquitt, Ga., to take on the Miller County High School Pirates. The tip off will be at 7:30 p.m.
