Ri’Chana Jackson led the Lady Cats with 17. Alex Carter added nine, Briana Wade put in eight, Jasmin Kelly contributed seven and Takia Crankfield scored four.

On Saturday night, the Lady Cats, who are 8-5 for the season, outscored the Lady Pirates 5-0 early in the second quarter to push their lead out to 19-11.

First, Carter hit a field goal and one free throw at the 7:50 mark to make it 17-11. Jackson then hit two free throws at the 6:52 mark to round out the 5-0 scoring run.

With 6:41 left in the game, Briana Wade hit a spinning jumper in the lane to give the Lady Cats a 52-41 lead.

Miller County bounced back to outscore them 16-3 the rest of the way and cut the final margin to three points. The Lady Pirates had a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer late, but threw the ball out of bounds with four seconds remaining.

Wade, who led the Lady Cats with 17 points, grabbed a rebound and hit a layup with 30 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Jackson added 16.

Following Saturday night’s win, Cochran said he liked his team’s hustle and hard play but they need to cut down on their turnovers.

The Lady Cats will return to action Saturday when they travel to Cairo for a 6 p.m. game with the Cairo High School Syrupmaids.
