Chad Simmons, national recruiting analyst for Scout.com, reported Thursday that Cairo High School Syrupmakers senior quarterback Steven Bench, the son of Steve and Glennie Bench of Bainbridge, has verbally committed to sign a college football national letter of intent with the Rice University Owls in Houston, Texas.

Bench was a member of the Bainbridge High School team for three seasons, before transfering to Cairo.
