Junior varsity Lady Cats win 1 of 3 at Lee County tournament

The Bainbridge High School junior varsity Lady Cats softball team won one of three games Saturday at the Lee County High School junior varsity Lady Trojans Invitational Tournament in Leesburg, Ga.

The Lady Cats opened play with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Trojans.

They went ahead to stay with a run in the first inning. Pitcher Brook Bates ignited the rally with a two-out single. She moved up to second when catcher Megan Vaughn drew abase on balls and came in on a single by center fielder Zakia Calloway.

A two-run second inning rally quickly pushed the Lady Cats lead out to 3-0. Key blows in the inning were RBI singles by pitcher Bates and catcher Vaughn.

They pushed across their final run in the third inning. It was scored by center fielder Calloway, who singled.

In their second tournament game, the Lady Cats made it close, rallying back from a 7-0 first inning deficit to lose 7-5 to the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers.

They scored three runs in the first inning and added two more runs in the fifth inning. Brook Bates, who reached on an error, second baseman Shea Williams, who walked, and Megan Vaughn, who doubled, all scored for the Lady Cats in the first.

The two Lady Cats fifth inning runs were scored by Brook Bates, who reached on an error, and Jordan Graham, who walked.

The Lady Cats played Colquitt County again in their final tournament game and lost 18-1. They pushed their run across in the third inning. It was scored by Jordan Graham, who singled.
